Dance Styles and Choreography

What is this subject about?

In this course you will: 

• build on your awareness of the body and how it is used in particular dance styles 

• extend your understanding and use of space, time, dynamics and relationships 

• explore dances from a range of cultures, times and locations 

• reflect on the development of traditional and contemporary styles of dance 

• evaluate dancers' success in expressing the choreographers' intentions 

• perform and work safely in groups

In this practical course, you will build awareness of the body and experience a range of dance styles from Hip Hop to Musical Theatre and Contemporary Ballet. 

This course will enable you to choreograph your own dance routines as well as learn choreography from experienced teachers and other students.

You will have the opportunity to build on existing dance skills and learn new repertoires of movement – focusing on the understanding of space, time and dynamics. 

Students will analyse choreographic devices and see performances from a variety of dance companies and theatrical groups to expand knowledge.

This course will require you to dance, individually and with a group. 

You will take part in physical classes and be able to watch and learn from a variety of professional dancers.
