Sporting Life

What is this subject about?

‘Sporting Life’ is a hybrid theoretical and practical subject which focusses on the workings of a professional sporting organisation.

Students will develop enterprise skills through the application of both theoretical and practical understandings, focusing on the following topics:

  • Sports media and games analysis
  • Exercise science/physiology
  • Nutrition advice 
  • Development of coaching skills
  • Students will be engaged through regular opportunities to analyse sporting matches and provide feedback and coaching
  • Media and other careers in sport – coach, sports trainer, marketing, journalism, data collection

In conjunction with this, students investigate the corporate nature of a sporting organisation and the increasing role of social media in communicating with the many stakeholders of the organisation.

As a part of the practical elements in this elective, students will rotate through different roles to gain experience and then develop mastery in one of the following: coaching, sports performance and sports management and organisation. In addition, students will investigate the different elements sporting clubs employ to develop a recognisable brand to engage with their community.

If you have an interest in pursuing a career in the corporate sporting industry, this subject is for you.

Students will have the opportunity to visit professional sporting organisations, allowing students to discover the array of career opportunities available in the field of sport such as: 

  • Professional athletes, coaches, nutritionists, publicists, sports managers, physiotherapists, and sports analysts. 

How will I demonstrate my learning?

You will demonstrate your learning by:

  • Completing a Coaching Course, whereby you will receive a Certificate of Completion
  • Peer Teaching task, involving teaching a practical PE lesson to a younger year level
  • Compiling a Sport Specific Training Program
  • Completing a Sporting Event Pitch
