What is this subject about?
• The subject focuses on student participation in interpersonal communication, interpreting the language of other speakers, and presenting information and ideas in Chinese on a range of themes and topics.
• It enables students to develop and extend skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing and viewing in Chinese in a range of contexts and develop cultural understanding in interpreting and creating language.
• Students develop their understanding of the relationships between language and culture in new contexts and consider how these relationships shape our communities.
Note: In Units 3 and 4, students of Chinese will be grouped into the following studies on the basis of the eligibility criteria set by VCAA: Chinese Second Language, Chinese Second Language Advanced, Chinese Language, Culture and Society and Chinese First Language. Check the group criteria here.

I might be interested in the subject because I believe that

How will I demonstrate my learning?
Your learning can be demonstrated by your performances in the outcomes in Unit 1 and Unit 2 prescribed by the study design.
- Each unit deals with language and specific content contained in the areas of study and is designed to enable students to achieve a set of outcomes for that unit. Each outcome is described in terms of key knowledge and key skills.

What are some future study and career pathways this subject may lead to?
- After finishing learning VCE Chinese Second Language Units 1 & 2, students can choose to continue their studies by either pursuing VCE Chinese Second Language Units 3 & 4 or studying VCE Chinese Language, Culture, and Society Units 3 & 4.
- Career pathways: competences in Chinese Language and culture open up many doors in personal development and careers in international relations and business, tourism, journalism, science and technology, and education etc.
