What is this subject about?

It enable students to

  • build on and extend the skills and competencies that were attained in the Year 8 Accelerated French;
  • prepare for entry into VCE Units 1 and 2 French in the following year;
  • explore topics relating to their personal world, society and French speaking communities, including friendship, health and the environment;
  • express ideas and experiences through the production of extended oral and written pieces such as individual oral presentations, role plays, poetry, creative writing and articles;
  • be exposed to authentic spoken and written French in a variety of forms including films, plays, television, magazines, poetry and songs.

YEAR 10 FRENCH FOR TOURISM AND COMMUNICATION (SEMESTER 2 OPTION)

Note: This is a 1 semester course and is appropriate for students who have decided by the end of Semester 1 that they will not be continuing with French in VCE. 

What is this subject about? 

It aims to enable students to 

  • acquire a useful knowledge and control of contemporary language for communication, and to develop the students' understanding of Francophone cultures;
  • practise communicating and developing mastery of useful vocabulary in the following areas: shopping for food and clothing, telling the time, giving and understanding directions, and reserving a room at a hotel;
  • participate in discussions, research and role-play performances about the following topics: Links between Australia and France; Film; and Future Pathways;
  • develop confidence in key language required for travel purposes, as well as broaden their understanding of French history and film. 

Why might I be interested in this course?

You will be interested in this elective if you wish to learn language that is useful for travelling around French speaking countries.

  •  participation in class;
  • homework;
  • vocabulary quizzes;
  • rehearsed and improvised role-plays;
  • listening tests

  • written and oral examinations at the end of the semester.
