Scheduling

Lessons are scheduled during the school day and are scheduled on a rotating timetable. Where possible, lessons are scheduled outside of class time only for students in Years 10, 11 and 12. Junior school music lessons must be scheduled on a rotating basis throughout the school day. Please note that if you choose to enrol your child in a second instrument, every effort will be made to schedule the lesson outside of class time, however this cannot be guaranteed.

2025 Fees

Private Music Tuition is charged by semester (16 lessons), which encapsulates two school terms. Teachers aim to provide 8 lessons per term, scheduling around various school excursions and other school events. Teachers will teach continually in order to provide a total of 32 lessons for the year, therefore in some instances may provide more or less than 8 lessons per term.

After enrolment, lesson fees are payable through the ‘Clipboard’ interface prior to the commencement of each semester. Lessons commenced part way through billing period will be charged on a pro-rata basis.

Missed Lessons

Missed lessons due to illness, extended family holidays or forgetfulness will not be made up. However, it would be courteous to give notice of absence to your daughter’s teacher.

Teachers will plan lessons around known school events, in accordance with the Ruyton Calendar. In the event of an unknown school event that interferes with music lessons (such as an unpublished class test), the student must advise the teacher of the clash at least two days prior. Failure to notify the teacher will result in the lesson being charged as usual.

Cessation of Lessons

Four weeks’ notice (not inclusive of term holidays) is required to terminate lessons. To cease lessons, you must submit the Discontinuation Form available on the school intranet. Students may choose to attend or not attend lessons during the four-week notice period.

Enrolment automatically carries over to the following year, unless written notice is received via the Discontinuation Form prior to the final school day at the end of the year.

Instrument Hire

A limited number of instruments are available to hire from the school at a cost of $220 per semester, chargeable to your account. Instrument hire will be arranged at the first lesson. Please fill out the required information in your application.

Other Charges

From time to time the music teacher will order books/resources for your child. These orders are placed through the Performing Arts office and will be charged directly to your account. Amounts under $75 will be ordered automatically, amounts over $75 will require parental permission before the order is placed.

Clipboard

The Music Department, in conjunction with other co-curricular departments at Ruyton, utilise Clipboard to facilitate lessons. Parents can view their students music lesson schedule in Clipboard.

If you would like to enrol for a third instrument please contact the Performing Arts Office on 9290 9327 to discuss the available options. Alternatively, you can email: performingarts@ruyton.vic.edu.au.
