YEAR 9 FRENCH

What is this subject about? 

It will enable students to 

  •  continue to engage themselves with the French language and culture in a stimulating and lively manner;
  • consolidate material covered in Year 8 and further develop listening, reading, speaking and writing skills with increased range of vocabulary and complexity of structures;
  • work on past and future tenses, and together with a more formal understanding of pronoun structures that will give students more scope for self-expression, both in written and oral language forms;
  • talk and write about themselves and their family, their interests, daily routine (including school and weekend activities) and how to cope with travel and shopping situations by the end of the year;
  • study and practise different text types such as letters, articles and diary entries.

How do I demonstrate my learning? 

Students demonstrate their learning through 

  • participation in class; 
  • homework;
  • written vocabulary and unit tests;
  • role-play presentations;
  • comprehension tests;
  • individual projects;
  • written and oral examinations at the end of each semester.

YEAR 9 ADVANCED FRENCH

(This course is only available to students who have completed Year 8 Advanced French to the required standard, ie: an average of 70% or above.)

What is this subject about?

It enable students to 

  • build on and extend the skills and competencies that were attained in the Year 8 Advanced French;
  •  prepare for entry into VCE Units 1 and 2 French in the following year; 
  • explore topics relating to their personal world, society and French speaking communities, including friendship, health and the environment;
  • express ideas and experiences through the production of extended oral and written pieces such as individual oral presentations, role plays, poetry, creative writing and articles;
  • be exposed to authentic spoken and written French in a variety of forms including films, plays, television, magazines, poetry and songs.


How will I demonstrate my learning?

Progress is demonstrated through 

  • class participation
  • self-paced online activities
  • written practice
  • four formal assessment tasks per semester : a role play in pairs or performance of a play in groups; a listening/ reading comprehension assessment; and a piece of creative writing
  • semester written and oral examinations at the end of each semester.
