Year 10 Mathematics
What is this subject about?
At Year 10, students will study Year 10 Mathematics in Semester 1. Students already in the Core program from year 9 will continue to be offered Core level assessment during the Semester. If students have been part of the advanced program in previous years, they may choose to study VCE Mathematical Methods 1 and 2 or undertake Year 10 Mathematics.
In Semester 2 the students will then either continue doing year 10 Mathematics or 10 General Mathematics following recommendation from their teachers.
Year 10 Mathematics is the prerequisite study for VCE Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics. Girls who aspire to study one or both of these subjects in the VCE must elect to study year 10 Mathematics in semester 2 of Year 10. A consistent standard of high B/B+ is the recommended level for study of Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics.
Year 10 General Mathematics prepares students for VCE General Mathematics or Foundation Mathematics. It is not an adequate preparation for Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics in the VCE.
