Year 10 Students Studying VCE Units 1- 2

It is strongly recommended that students wishing to study a VCE Unit 1 and 2 subject in Year 10 should:

  • gain ‘B’ or above standard for all assessment tasks in subjects in Year 9.
  • gain a grade of ‘A’ or more in the subject area in which the student wishes to study VCE Units 1 and 2. In exceptional circumstances, this criteria may be reviewed.
  • demonstrate an ability to organise and manage their workload in Year 9.
  • In some instances, students may be asked to demonstrate a skill in a particular area.
  • Students are not permitted to study more than two VCE Unit 1 and 2 subjects in Year 10.

Please note:

  • Students who do not meet the above criteria will meet with Careers and Course Counsellors following subject selection during Term 3 and be advised that their selected course is not recommended. The School will also advise parents/guardians in writing if the course selected is not recommended by the School.
  • The performance of each student in Year 10 taking a VCE Unit 1 and 2 subject will be reviewed in Term 1 at the end of Week 6.
  • Students should undertake no more than two VCE Unit 1 and 2 subjects in Year 10.
  • Ruyton requires 90% attendance for students to receive an ‘S’ satisfactory completion. Students who are absent from the School for more than 10% of the scheduled class time for a unit may be awarded an ‘N’ (not satisfactory).
  • If a student suffers illness during the year, medical certificates will be required to cover all absences. Otherwise the student may not satisfy the 90% attendance requirement.
  • The Wellbeing Leader and Careers and Course Counsellor are very willing to talk to girls and parents if their assistance or advice is needed in the making of these subject choices.
